I want to take childbirth education, but I don't want to choose a specific method.

We have you covered! Doulas of Charlotte's childbirth education is comprehensive, and covers many different types/methods of birthing. You will leave feeling confident and prepared for the choices you will make during your birth.

What education does Doulas of Charlotte offer?

Doulas of Charlotte is pleased to offer evidence based, all encompassing group and private Childbirth Education Classes. Taught by Emily Knight, a former L&D Nurse (trained at Duke University as a Childbirth Educator), our class offers unbiased comprehensive information. Designed to empower parents through education and real life scenarios, Emily's course is tailored to cater to all types of learning styles, including visual, auditory and hands on instruction. Through interactive games, videos and demonstrations, attendees receive the tools they need to make educated decisions regarding their preferences for care before, during and after childbirth. The class is a compilation of techniques for labor including Bradley Method, Lamaze, etc.

Topics covered in class include:

  • When to Call Your OB

  • Labor Stages

  • Partner Supported Natural Labor

  • Physical Comfort Measures

  • Relaxation Techniques

  • Interventions (how they are done, when they are necessary, how they feel, risks and benefits)

  • Epidurals

  • Provider Communication

  • Breastfeeding 101

  • Newborn Care

  • Postpartum Care

  • Birth Plan Building

Emily also gives her personal number to all attendees so any questions that may arise after class can be addressed and to continue educational support after class has ended. This class is unique and different from hospital birthing classes in that it is unbiased, and is a comprehensive overview that gives parents all the details needed to empower their decision making during and after the birth process.
